Pete Hardin
started The Milkweed in June 1979. Over the past 27 years, the
paper has become the standard for dairy reporting in the United States.
Hardin, 56, brings nearly 30 years of experience and contacts in the U.S. dairy
industry to the pages of The Milkweed.
Pete lives with his wife and two children on a small farm near Brooklyn, Wisconsin (about 15 miles south of Madison). He holds a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Journalism from UW-Madison, atop a B.A. in English from Earlham College (Richmond, Indiana).
Pete hails from Sussex, New Jersey—once a bustling dairy community. His extensive contacts and travels around the nation make Hardin one of the most knowledgeable reporters covering the dairy industry.
“Nobody knows everything in the dairy industry, but my network of friends and sources keeps me pretty well posted,” Hardin believes.

John Bunting, ageless, is a dairy farmer in Delaware County, New York. John milks Jerseys with his son and daughter, and dreams of processing and marketing his own cheeses.
John provides The Milkweed with many talents. John is an expert at finding information from Internet sources as well as strong personal communications skills. The information and insight John brings each month to The Milkweed add greatly to the paper’s quality. One of John’s greatest strengths as a writer is the ability to put together pieces of the dairy puzzle that show the bigger picture.
With John Bunting digging, analyzing and reporting, dairy farmer readers know that one of their own—someone milking cows twice a day—brings the farmer’s perspective and concerns directly to the pages of The Milkweed.
